With many different retractable awning products on the market, how do you decide which one to buy?

Awnings are designed firstly for sun protection, but in the UK we like to use them all year round.

Patio awnings are not just for sitting under. They shade the room that they are covering. There’s no better way to provide shade and keep a room cool.

The basic ideas of the retractable awning design have stayed the same for many years, but not all awnings are the same.

A large high-up seafront property, needs a heavier duty system with better wind protection than a small patio awning in a home setting.

Motorisation offers a whole range of options. There’s a long list of sensors available to protect the product and the building. Press a button and the awning moves. Having a motor will motivate you actually use the awning. If you use the awning, then you are more likely to stop overheating your home.

Manual winding systems are also available. For larger awnings though, we certainly recommend a using a motor to ensure you get the most use out of your awning all year round.

Choosing a fabric for your awning system is just as important. It’s not just about the colour. We use Primacryl acrylic awning canvas, which is stitched with Tenara sewing thread for protection against UV damage.
